Featured Specimen - Large Double Smoky Quartz, Clear Quartz, and Calcite Keokuk Geode Pair! (Click on Images for a larger view).
A double Keokuk geode pair that is all complete! Each half of the larger geode is lined with smoky quartz and measures approximately 7.75 x 7.5 inches across and 2 inches in depth. The right half also has a calcite cluster that stands about 1.5 inches tall and was just slightly contacted when the geode was opened. The smaller geode (the lid shown in the upper left photo fits on the geode that is on the back of the right half (see bottom right photo) is lined with very light smoky to slightly orangish (due to iron) quartz and a single 1.25 inch across calcite crystal. This is actually a triple geode - the smaller geode is actually double-celled! An intriguing Keokuk geode pair that shows how the geodes are found in their host rock - usually clustered and in horizontal lines. The difference in calcite habits in both geodes is also interesting. Total weight is around 18.5 pounds. The lid of the small geode will be shipped in a separate box.
