A highly lustrous black sphalerite (measuring right at 1 inch or 2.54 cm across) is present inside of a primarily clear quartz lined Keokuk, Iowa area geode pair. Numerous small calcites and kaolinite are present upon the quartz. The sphalerite, as the photographs show, was cleaved when the geode was opened so this does detract especially from a collector's perspective. The luster for the sphalerite, however, is quite good for a Keokuk geode and some ferroan dolomite is also present atop the sphalerite. Collected in 2014 from Larry Creek north of Hamilton, Hancock County, Illinois. Price for the nearly complete matching pair is $30.00 plus shipping.
