Whole Tabasco Geodes
Tabasco geodes are mined near the town of Tabasco, southwest of Zacatecas, Mexico. These geodes are very popular with jewelry makers given their small size yet very beautiful sparkling and colorful quartz lined interiors with a size range from about a quarter inch up to 2-3 inches in diameter, but the most popular and often hollow size is between a half and one and a half inches. Their outside shells are most often green colored but can also be a light green or tan depending on the host rock. Sometimes called "Ilianites", production was strong in the mid to late 1970s but then stalled, and has recently become active in just the past few years. The present offering of whole Tabasco geodes below is likely old stock Tabascos acquired from a collection. It is very difficult to get whole Tabasco geodes as the vast majority are cut/polished in Mexico and sold to those with jewelry/lapidary interests, plus the small size makes for sorting out solids much more difficult so most get cut near the mine. Guarantee Policy: Given the small size of the Tabasco geodes, it is more difficult to determine if these are all hollow or not. Even so, we will provide a 90% guaranteed hollow policy unless otherwise noted in each item's description, meaning 9 out of 10 geodes will have an open cavity lined with crystals. If you receive a completely solid Tabasco geode, we will either replace or refund your purchase for that particular geode. We strongly recommend that these geodes be cut open versus cracked especially given the high quality quartz interiors in the majority of these geodes!
