Minerals from Namibia - The Geode Gallery

This page contains a mixture of specimens from the country of Namibia.  For geographic placement, Namibia is bordered by South Africa to its south and the Atlantic Ocean to its west.  Many minerals have been found in Namibia for many years, and most collectors (especially professional collectors) when they hear "Namibia" immediately think of Tsumeb.  In more recent years, additional finds have been made, including fluorite, beryl (aquamarines), quartz, and tourmalines being among the most important finds.

Below we have posted a selection of mainly fluorites from the Okaruso Mine, Erongo Mountains, in Namibia.

DISCLAIMER:  While looking at the photographs of the fluorites, it is important to note that most of the specimens appear purple in color.  This is NOT the actual color of the specimens!  While these specimens do have a purple color, especially in the interior of the crystals, they are actually a very translucent GREEN.  The crystals are such a clear green that the purple underneath shows in the photographs and not the green itself.  We hesitated to post these specimens for sale to the Internet due to this problem, but we understand that there was so much of this fluorite available at Tucson this year that most collectors have now been exposed to what this material looks like in person.  We do apologize for this photo error, but we will describe the specimens to our best ability and please imagine the specimens as a green, not purple color.  Thank you - The Geode Gallery.

I will post more fluorites and other specimens from Namibia when I have the time to do so.  Thanks for your patience.

#NAM 07 - Fluorite - Okaruso Mine, Erongo Mountains, Namibia

15 x 12 x 7 cm - $95.00 sold

A nice cabinet/large cabinet specimen from this deposit.  The color is a very pleasing translucent green with purple at the matrix.  Most of the specimen is damage free, there are just a few fluorites that have rubs or missing corners.  The only detraction to this specimen that really "hurts" in my opinion is the area of matrix that is seen in the far right photo.  If the specimen is displayed as shown in the left photo, this is not a factor but it is there and prevents the specimen from being good "all around".  Still, the color on this one is excellent.  $95.00
