#BG-100:  Calcite on Quartz matrix

Djurkovo Mine, Laki Deposit, southern Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria

16 x 10 x 8 cm (6.2 x 3.9 x 3.1 inches) - $275.00

A single 14cm (5.5 inch) calcite crystal is perched on a massive quartz matrix with individual quartz crystals on top (see bottom left photo).  There are also lesser calcites behind the main calcite but these are pretty much negligible given the dominance of the main crystal.  The main crystal (borderline calcite/manganocalcite) is complete and virtually damage-free (there are just a couple of very very slight nicks on the left termination - with a good cleaning and just a touch of mineral oil these could be resolved most likely).  The specimen needs no assistance for display as shown in the upper left photo, or you can "prop" it up as shown in the bottom right (but with assistance).  A fine specimen from this mine.
