#BG-106 - Calcite on Quartz

Droujba Mine, Laki Deposit, southern Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria

24 x 8 x 11 cm (9.4 x 3.1 x 4.3 inches) - $100.00

A large cabinet specimen of a combination of calcite and quartz make up this specimen.  The "front" side (shown in the first three photos from top down and left to right) features a quartz coated matrix with some calcites in the classic Droujba brown color on the top, while the "back" side is nearly all brown calcite.  The specimen really looks better from the front side for display due to the much heavier coating of calcite on the back and lack of contrast, as well as some damage to the back side (the white area on the back side to the right appears to be a chisel or drill mark).  There are some broken calcite crystals here and there as well but from the front these are minimally seen.  A nice larger calcite/quartz specimen from this mining district.
